Do you need medical care today, but you can’t get in with your regular Open Door provider?
Open Door is pleased to announce walk-in services for non-life threatening medical issues!
What: Open Door Acute Care Center (ACC) for walk-in appointments for established Open Door patients
Who: for all established Open Door patients. We cannot accept anyone who is not already a patient of Open Door.

When: 8 am – 5 pm, Monday through Friday (closed for lunch 12:00PM – 1:00 PM)
What: Walk-in health center (no appointment needed) for established patients

The Acute Care Center cannot see patients for work related injury or illness, sports physicals, or medication refills of any kind.

The Eureka Community Health and Wellness Garden developed in 2014. The Eureka garden is used for food production, community volunteer events, and garden demonstrations. We're currently developing a sensory garden behind the Eureka Community Health Center, right next to our Pediatric lobbies.
Our Eureka volunteer hours allow patients and community members to come grow food for the patients who visit the health center. We appreciate our new partnership with Making Headway Center for Brain Injury Recovery and are grateful for all the participants who lend their time to volunteer in our gardens.

Diana earned her Doctor of Chiropractic from Life West Chiropractor College in Hayward, CA where she graduated Cum Laude. She specializes in conservative musculoskeletal care. In 2021 she moved up to Humboldt for the rain and fog and worked for Active Care Chiropractic in Eureka. She hails from Berkeley, California and as a child was part of a stilt walking group that would walk for large events like the Grateful Dead. .Her hobbies include mushroom hunting, whitewater kayaking and rafting.

We are pleased and proud to announce the addition of Kenneth Drake, Acupuncturist, to our Medical staff. Ken grew up in Idaho but was first introduced to acupuncture and Chinese culture when he lived with a Chinese family in college.
He then earned his Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine degree from Five Branches University in Santa Cruz in 2011 and has since studied in China and lived in Taiwan.
He ran a busy private practice in San Luis Obispo, CA but always wanted to live in Northern California. He was attracted to Open Door by our community focus and accessibility to those who don’t normally have access to acupuncture.
Some of his specialties are pain management, addiction, stress reduction, and hormonal health.
Kenneth was drawn here by the stunning nature and kind people.
Hiking, fishing, traveling, and playing chess with his daughter are some of his favorite things to do when not working.
Wave Clinic
Ken's acupuncture 'Wave Clinic' is a community style clinic the way it's done in China. It's semiprivate; you get your own space sperated by screens, but you get the added benefits of healing your biorhythms, or "waves" in a shared space.
Once you are settled onto a warm bed Ken will come to talk with you about your troubled areas and treatment options,, once the needles are placed, you can relax and rest.
We request that you wear comfortable clothing that can easily be rolled up or down, while in 'Wave Clinic' we ask you to use quite voices and limit caffeine the day of appointment.

The Mind-Body-Lifestyle group invites individuals managing one or more chronic conditions, including chronic pain, to join a transformative 9-week program. This group integrates mainstream medical treatments with holistic and alternative therapies to address the whole person-mind, body, spirit, lifestyle.
Sessions are held in a supportive group setting, with multiple times and days available. Groups take place at Collaborative Care Services, located at 2426 Buhne Street, Eureka, CA.

Chronic Pain Groups (in Fortuna at the Fortuna Community Health Center)
Led by Nurse Practitioner Georgina Grimm, these groups help participants manage
their chronic pain though a holistic approach with emphasis on physical and
mental health support. Each group reviews various coping techniques,
self-care skills and educational topics to help patients make meaningful
changes to improve day to day pain and quality of life.

The Willow Creek Community Health and Wellness Garden was developed during the seasonal transition from winter 2012 to the spring of 2013, when Open Door staff were able to turn a vacant lot next to the health center into a vibrant garden space filled with fruit trees and raised beds for produce and flowers.

Open Door's Community Health and Wellness Garden program began in 2011 with our first garden in Del Norte. The Del Norte Community Health and Wellness Garden was built between 2011 and 2013. This welcoming community space was a result of the efforts of passionate staff champions and the collaboration with a group of dedicated community partners.
The garden emerged alongside Open Door's Rx for Wellness program as a health resource initiative within a suite of developing services dedicated to advancing Open Door's whole-person, patient-centered philosophy of care.

The Fortuna Community Health and Wellness Garden began in 2015 in partnership with the Fortuna Garden Project, and is our largest Humboldt-based garden space. The most recent iteration of the Fortuna Community Health and Wellness Garden launched in the fall of 2018, concurrent with the opening of the Fortuna Community Health Center.
Centro del Pueblo cares for the Sanctuary Garden of Fortuna in the Fortuna wellness garden space. We are grateful for the partnership and community we've built together with their team.

Dr. Jennifer Stone is a public health dentist who aims to change the social perceptions of dentistry. She graduated at the top of her class from the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health with a Doctorate of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) and a Master’s in Public Health (MPH). She has taken countless hours of additional pediatric dental training and education. Her gentle and supportive demeanor allows her to work with fearful and apprehensive young patients. She creates a fun and fear-free zone and prioritizes creating good dental experiences. She utilizes behavioral guidance techniques such as positive self-talk, breathing exercises, distraction techniques, and motivational interviewing. Dr. Stone goes beyond simply treating a tooth by promoting whole-person healthcare which empowers children to care about their overall health and maintain healthy habits for life.
Before coming to Open Door, Dr. Stone created a classroom-based educational curriculum for elementary-aged students in Arizona and Mexico. She has also volunteered hundreds of hours, both domestically and internationally, serving those who need dental care most. Her unwavering commitment to community dentistry has been recognized with several prestigious awards from organizations such as the California Dental Association, the National Health Service Corps, and Rotary International.
Luisa is a Registered Dental Assistant and graduated from College of the Redwoods Dental Assisting program in 2019. She has an innate desire to care for others which was cultivated by her strong family ties and caring for her nephew since he was born. Luisa offers a calm and nurturing personality that provides comfort to young children. Her contributions to the van include top organizational skills and always looking for ways to be more efficient, aiding in quick visits. Outside of dentistry, Luisa likes exploring new restaurants and learning how to cook. Luisa is also fluent in Spanish.
Carolina is a Registered Dental Assistant and graduated from College of the Redwoods Dental Assisting program in 2020. Her passion for working with children drew her to the dental van where her engaging communication skills allow her to connect with children of all ages. Carolina enjoys the challenge of turning fearful patients into those who enjoy going to the dentist. With a bubbly personality and attention to detail, she is a great addition to the van team. In her free time, she enjoys dog sitting, spending time with family, and listening to audiobooks (both in English and Spanish).

Requirements for newly graduated Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants
Applicants must be recent graduates (less than 18 months) from an accredited master’s or DNP program, licensed (CA APRN) and credentialed (FNP-C) or license/credential-eligible as an FNP or PA-C with a stated commitment to practice as a primary care provider in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) or other safety-net settings upon completion of the residency.

The ODCHC APC residency program offers a Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) training program as part of our Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) residency curriculum. This program equips healthcare providers with the skills to perform and interpret ultrasounds at the patient’s bedside, resulting in enhanced diagnostic accuracy, timely decision-making, reduced healthcare costs, improved patient experience, expanded access to underserved areas, and opportunities for education and community health promotion. By integrating POCUS into our curriculum, we enhance patient care and access to healthcare while reducing costs benefiting individual patients and the community.
Procedure Clinic
The procedure clinic within our Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) residency curriculum at Open Door Community Health Centers empowers our healthcare providers with the skills to perform essential medical procedures efficiently in the primary care setting, such as biopsies, injections, suturing, etc. This program significantly benefits our patients and community by ensuring enhanced patient care, reduced wait times, cost-effective treatment, and improved access to essential healthcare services. Longitudinal Pediatric Clinics
Our Longitudinal Pediatric Clinic training, an integral component of the Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) residency curriculum at Open Door Community Health Centers, is designed to equip our healthcare providers with specialized skills in pediatric care.
