Joseph Demont

Senior Vice President, Finance

CPA with a distinguished track record and a reputation for integrity, innovation and results, Joe D has more than 20 years of experience working for Fortune 500 companies, family-controlled corporations and venture capital-backed startups, including assignments throughout the United States and in Latin America and Southeast Asia.

He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA., a Master of Science degree in Technical Communication from Renssealaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Technical Writing from the Polytechnic Institute of New York in Brooklyn, New York.

During the early part of his career, Joe D spent over 10 years at Dole Food Company, Inc., where he concentrated on financial strategy and performance improvements for Latin America, South-East Asia and US (California) operations.  He went on to pursue career opportunities in hi-tech and consulting, mostly recently focusing in health care, where his career included serving as senior vice president and chief financial officer for Optimal Health Services, chief financial officer of the Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District, where he led a $50 million bond and fundraising initiative for a new replacement hospital, and helped propel the district in a historic financial and operations turnaround. Subsequently, he went on to serve as VP of Finance for Alameda County Medical Center (Oakland, CA), CFO of Gardner Family Health Network (Santa Clara County’s largest FQHC), and senior consultant with HFS-WipFli and Warbird Partners, premier healthcare consulting firms specializing in healthcare management, financial and operations consulting, and accounting and auditing services.

His most recent project (2019) was serving as Interim Regional CFO for Franciscan Alliance – Olympia Fields & Chicago Heights, IL, where he helped to spearhead revenue-cycle initiatives and consolidation improvements.  Franciscan Alliance is a large mid-western Catholic healthcare system with strong market presence in the Illinois-Indiana region.  Prior to that, his most recent financial & operational turnaround project was at Bakersfield Heart Hospital (2016-2018), where he implemented the deployment of advanced analytics, revenue cycle improvements, and led a major restructuring and refinancing project.

Joe D’s passions continue to be in population health management, community health, and leading financial turnaround and performance improvement strategies with specialized focus in small-to-medium-sized community hospitals and health centers.  The son of an Anglo-European father and a Latina mother, Joe understands first-hand disparities in healthcare and the social determinants of health.  And, like Open Door Community Health Centers, Joe D is committed to “Access for All. Equity for All. Once and for All. No one left behind.”
