Services

This clinic focuses on the needs of women during pregnancy. Women who know they are pregnant, are encouraged to start prenatal care within their first trimester. Early and consistent prenatal care is better for the health of the mother-to-be and for the infant. The clinic provides all necessary check-ups, examinations and laboratory work, and offers education on a wide range of topics. In addition to specially trained nurses and support staff, the clinic has three physicians and one nurse midwife. The clinic provides team care and a provider is on-call and available 24 hours a day.

The clinic supports midwifery and provides medical intervention as necessary. Some patients choose to have home births or use midwives or other providers not affiliated with Open Door to assist at the birth. We still encourage pregnant women to get involved in our prenatal services as soon as possible to assure healthy outcomes regardless of the type of birth experience ultimately selected. The providers at Northcountry Prenatal Services use the Trillium Birth Center of Mad River Community Hospital for deliveries.

This clinic does not provide general medical services; however, it coordinates such services with other Open Door Community Health Center sites. It also coordinates fast-track referrals to dental and behavioral health services as needed.

Breast Pump Group
(for Partnership Members)

Patients with Partnership Health Plan are offered a breast pump if going back to work or school. To obtain the breast pump, patients must attend a breastfeeding and breast pump educational session. Sessions are offered once a month and cover the use of the breast pump, breastfeeding education, community resources and will assist wit the paperwork needed for breast pump. It’s recommended patients attend the educational session during the last trimester of pregnancy but can attend any time until the infant is 6 months old. If the session is attended prenatally, breast pumps can be picked up from the clinic after the child is born.

Patients with insurance other than Partnership Health Plan, including MediCAL, should contact their insurance company to inquire about their coverage for a breast pump, then contact a durable medical equipment (DME) company to order a breast pump. Breast pumps are also provided by WIC for patients on the WIC program.

Infant CPR Classes

You’ll learn techniques for handling a lifethreatening emergency—if a child is choking or isn’t moving or breathing because of a fall or a near drowning, for example. The techniques are different for babies than for older children and adults. This is a class to learn practical skills, not a certifying class.

This class is taught by Kate Maguire and is held at Northcountry Prenatal Services (NPS). Please sign up for the class at the front desk or call (707) 822-1385. Classes are on the following Thursdays from 5:00 pm—6:00 pm
