This month marks three years of the COVID-19 pandemic. During that time, the virus has changed, new variants have spread, and the science works to keep up.
Just like the virus, COVID-19 vaccines have changed. We now have updated boosters that can protect us better. The updated boosters (also called bivalent boosters) protect us against the original virus that causes COVID-19 and the Omicron variant. Bivalent boosters can protect you from getting very sick, going to the hospital, or dying from COVID-19.
Did you know updating vaccines is not new? Flu vaccines are updated yearly to protect us from the current strain of the flu.
