National Health Center Week (August 7-13) is a celebration of the mission and accomplishments of American’s community health centers, the largest and most successful system of primary healthcare in the nation, as well as the unique role of Open Door Community Health Centers in Humboldt and Del Norte counties. Over the past fifty years community health centers have:
- Reduced income and ethnic health disparities nationwide, even in the poorest and most challenged communities
- Reduced infant mortality rates
- Saved the health system $24 billion each year
- Reduced unnecessary hospitalizations and visits to the ER

About Open Door
Open Door Community Health Centers was founded with a vision to provide excellent health care and health education to an underserved part of California, at a time when the region suffered from a shortage of access.
Starting as a single clinic in 1971, Open Door now has 12 community health centers and across Humboldt and Del Norte counties – a service area larger than the state of Connecticut – serving more than 60,000 patients a year and employing over 700 members of the community.
