Open Door promotes voter registration at Pastels on the Plaza in Arcata, California (October 2018).

The goal for the 2018 National Voter Registration Day is to increase participation by encouraging Americans to register to vote and come out to the polls this November.

Evidence (Ballard & Pachucki, Florida Parole Commission, Kansas Health Foundation etc.) shows that communities with high voter registration and turnout see better health outcomes, higher levels of political empowerment and social connectedness.

During this voting season, Open Door is delighted to partner with the League of Women Voters of Humboldt County, and True North Organizing, Del Norte, to provide non-partisan, non-issue-based voter registration in our clinics. Empowerment of individuals and the communities of the North Coast is core to Open Door’s mission.

From 10 am-2 pm, Tuesday, September 25, 2018, Open Door hosted National Voter Registration Day 2018 registration drives in Eureka and Fortuna.

As a nonpartisan unofficial national holiday, National Voter Registration Day counts on thousands of partners and volunteers across the political spectrum. Started in 2012 for the presidential election, National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right – the right to vote.
